Get to Know Me

John L. Hester was born and raised in Santa Monica, California, nurtured from an early age by the rich influence of jazz music. He joined the U.S. Navy, where he refined his musical talents through training at the Navy School of Music and Naval Bandmaster School. After serving 20 years as a Navy Bandmaster, John retired from his horn and relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked with Steve Wynn at the Mirage Casino as a Casino Floor Supervisor.
 
Following two decades in the gaming industry, John moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, to reconnect with his first passion, jazz music. Throughout his career, he has performed alongside legendary artists such as Percy Sledge, Pete Fountain, The Coasters, The Marvelettes, Al Hirt, and many notable musicians from New Orleans, Atlanta, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He later moved to the Gulf Coast to be near his two daughters, Holly and Heidi.
 
Known affectionately as “Holly’s Dad,” John named his jazz group “Holly’s Dad’s Jazz Band.” He can often be heard performing with the South Coast Stompers at the Silver Slipper Casino. To the HL Raymond Properties team, John is much more than just Holly’s father. He’s our “Papa,” a trusted and beloved presence who offers his help wherever needed. Whether changing light bulbs around the office or hammering signs for listings, John is their indispensable “Everything Guy,” and the team truly values having him as part of their family.
